Many people don’t know what the life of an engineer is like, for example
what a day in the work life of an engineer looks like. When people think about
what an engineer does on a daily basis, what comes to their mind? Do they think
that they sit around and solve math problems all day? Or maybe people think
that engineers sit in a cube and work alone on all of their projects. Well
these people are wrong because engineers don’t perform calculations all day. In
this blog post I am going to talk about the daily life/routine of an electrical
engineer.
There
are engineers that spend their time doing the math, but most of the
calculations that engineers do are simple and they rely on software to do it
for them. So, what is the life of an electrical engineer like? What do they do
on a typical day? Some of these engineers spend over 40 percent of their time
communicating through emails, attending meetings, working on strategic
planning, tracking projects and answering conference calls.
The
life of an electrical engineer includes designing, implementing, maintaining,
improving and testing electronics that everyone uses every day. They design
both hardware for example, electronics, like circuit boards and software for
each project. They review the requirements of projects and they come up with
solutions. They spend most of their time in their offices thinking and planning
their ideas. Most of these engineer’s work takes place in their office or labs,
however they occasionally make trips to factories.
Other
types of engineers do their work in other places like, factories, oil fields,
electrical substations, nuclear plants, only to name a few. Most of the
electrical engineers spend at least most of their time in an office working in
front of a computer.
